This is the 5th generation of our ACDC18x solar air conditioner series with a new key feature we’ve had so many requests for – our new “C” model 18KACDC solar air conditioning technology requires no grid connection. Like previous versions, it also needs no batteries, no inverter, no charge controller – just plug in the solar panels and start saving up to 100% on daytime cooling or heating costs. A grid connection can be added to automatically allow operation at night, as well as to provide higher daytime capacity & uninterrupted operation during cloudy or low sunlight conditions.

How It Works

Solar Panel Connection

The MeLana Solar Air Conditioner uses three to six solar panels to deliver the energy needed for daytime operation. It connects directly to solar panels, which generate DC power from sunlight.
DC Power Utilization
The DC power generated by the solar panels is used directly by the air conditioner, eliminating the need for a solar charge controller or inverter.
Cooling Cycle
The air conditioner uses DC power to run the compressor, fan, and other components, effectively cooling the space.
Hybrid Mode
When sunlight is insufficient or during nighttime, the air conditioner automatically switches to grid power, ensuring continuous cooling.

The MeLana Solar Air Conditioner optimizes energy efficiency by using solar energy as the primary power source. It reduces reliance on grid electricity and helps save on energy bills. With its official SEER 22 rating, the unit continues to deliver exceptional energy savings.

Installation

Easy solar connections make installation very simple. The Melana Solar 18K solar air conditioner is installed just like a normal mini-split air conditioner. The solar panels can be connected using standard MC4 connectors. You can use three or more standard solar panels, each rated between 350W and 500W, wired in series. Please note that the panels must have a minimum rating of 36 Vmp. You can either purchase the panels from us or buy them locally. The Melana Solar 18K solar air conditioner is shipped pre-charged with R410a or R32, an ozone-friendly refrigerant. We recommend hiring a professional air conditioner installer for proper installation.
Anti-Corrosion For Long Life
Designed to last a long time in coastal and/or island areas where salty mist, saline fog, or salt spray may come in contact with critical air conditioner components, the 18KACDC uses SeaSpray Anti-Corrosion Technology to protect major components from corrosion.
SEER
On pure AC power when no free solar energy is used, official SEER is >22. SEER is “Seasonal EER” and is a way of describing an “average EER” and considers that the system operates under part-load conditions a majority of the time. Currently, there is no official test standard for testing SEER or SEER based on whether or not the energy is paid for. However, if you perform a SEER calculation and include only the paid energy, this calculated SEER can be as high as SEER 75 or above when using solar along with AC backup power. ​
